Innovative Skylights and Attics offers blinds for prefabricated Velux glass skylights. If you do not have a prefabricated Velux skylight but want blinds, we suggest contacting a specialty blind store such as Hunter Douglas to have them made. If you would like to explore the option of replacing your current skylight with a Velux, please contact us for an estimate.
Blinds come in a variety of colors and can be manual, electric, or solar power operated. Manual blinds are pulled down by hand or with an adjustable rod. The rod is 3’-6’ long and can have a 3’ extension added to it. For out of reach applications, we recommend solar powered blinds. Solar powered blinds come with remote controls, which can be set to control up to 200 blinds simultaneously. Solar powered blinds are eligible for a 30% Federal Tax credit. Electric powered blinds are available for electric venting skylights.
Generally we recommend light filtering blinds for skylights because they allow control over the light coming in without eliminating the light completely. Light filtering blinds reduce the heat by about 32% and cut glare from direct sunlight.
Light blocking blinds give you the ability to “turn the light off” by blocking 98% of light for watching TV or sleeping. They also reduce the heat by about 32%.
Venetian blinds reduce light by 74% and adjust direct light in any direction. They are only available for manual blinds.
Some customers have solar screen fabric covering their skylights. Solar screens are usually tied directly around the skylight, placed on the skylight underneath the retainer, or placed on a frame above the skylight. WE DO NOT INSTALL SOLAR SCREENS.
