Some customers have solar screen fabric covering their skylights. Solar screens are usually tied directly around the skylight, placed on the skylight underneath the retainer, or placed on a frame above the skylight. WE DO NOT INSTALL SOLAR SCREENS. There are several reasons for this. First, the chemical interaction between the solar screen and acrylic causes the skylight to wear out quickly, cutting the life of the product in half. Secondly, solar screen attached to frames are a safety hazard because they can blow off the roof. If you are certain that you want a solar screen, we recommend that you speak with a roofer. If you are willing to explore other options, you may want to consider replacing the current skylight dome with a white acrylic dome for heat reduction. You may also want to consider Velux skylights, which are insulated and give you the option of installed blinds.
